The engine is placed at the rear meaning the front seats offer a more comfortable amount of legroom. The car’s small engine means running costs and duty are minimal.

 

Kia Picanto

Kia’s answer to a small car that is cheap to run and doesn’t compromise on space or driving experience is the Picanto. It is one of the sector's most competitive in terms of build quality and it comes with a range of equipment too, being awarded the ‘Most Dependable City Car’ in 2016 by JD Power. The vehicel performs at its best on shorter city journeys as the engine needs to be revved quite hard to make progress. Light steering, clear controls and a comfortable upright driving position make the Picanto an ideal small car.

 

Citroen C3

The C3 has an incredibly cost effective way of dealing with any possible damage. Borrowing its style from the C4 Cactus, the Air Bump side inserts mean minor dents and bangs are absorbed by the plastic panels which can be easily replaced. Furthermore, your no claims bonus in more serious scrapes are protected by the dashcam which comes as standard.
